IBM is the third company I've worked for, though the only one I've been in love with. By the fourth month of being in the company, I knew many of it's processes, people, culture, structure, policies and most values. Over the last six years, I've not been as in tune with the updates, so when I found out about, what is considered, the corporate equivalent of the peace corps, I couldn't thank my stars enough for being employed with this company and being able to apply for this program.
Well, getting selected for the corporate service corps and being here now ... that's just unreal!
I'm with a group of 11 people from eight countries - India, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, US, Germany, Japan and China - deployed in Ghana, Africa in Feb '11 for a month. We started interacting with each other three months before the assignment deployment, through weekly conference calls and random IMs, where we found out more about each other, Ghana and our assignment. We got divided into three sub-teams working with the electricity company, a school and a vocation insitute to help setup or improve their IT systems. My sub-team of three is working with the vocational insitutue to setup a student information system and a website for them.
This blog covers my experiences, adventures.. and misadventures on this trip :)
